The standard we aim for

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. These are the international guidelines for making websites usable by people with disabilities, and they help everyone else too.

What we have done

  • Dark text on a light background with strong contrast, chosen to stay readable outdoors in sunlight.
  • Buttons and links at least 48 pixels tall, so they are easy to tap.
  • The menu works without JavaScript.
  • A "skip to content" link for people who use a keyboard or a screen reader.
  • Movement is kept to a minimum, and switched off when your phone asks for reduced motion.
  • Light pages that load on slow mobile data. There are no videos that play by themselves and no sliding carousels.
  • Form fields have visible labels, and error messages appear in the language of the page.
  • Photos have text descriptions.
  • The home, fees, visit and contact pages are in Kiswahili as well as English.

What we know is not yet right

  • Most pages, including our policies, are in English only for now. The main pages for parents are also in Kiswahili.
  • The website has been checked with automated tools, but not yet fully against WCAG 2.2 AA.
  • It has not yet been tested by people who use a screen reader such as TalkBack, the reader built into most Android phones.
