Faith and character
Prayer and good character are part of everyday boarding life at Olgun, alongside the national curriculum.
Daily prayer
The school has its own prayer hall, where boys pray together. Lessons and evening prep are planned around prayer times.
Prayer times follow the sun, so they move a little through the year. The times below are approximate.
| Prayer | About | In the school day |
|---|---|---|
| Fajr | 05:00 | Before breakfast, in the prayer hall |
| Dhuhr | 13:00 | At the lunch break |
| Asr | 16:00 | After afternoon lessons |
| Maghrib | 18:30 | Before supper |
| Isha | 21:00 | After evening prep |
Fridays
On Fridays lessons follow the normal timetable, and boys wear their usual clothes.
Qur'an and Islamic studies
Boys follow the national curriculum and sit the national examinations. Qur’an and Islamic studies are taught alongside it.

Character
Our motto starts with discipline. In practice, that means three things we expect of every boy.
- Respect.
- For teachers, for each other and for the people who work at the school. When a boy breaks the rules he first gets a warning, then a sanction, and if it continues he is sent home. There is no corporal punishment at Olgun.
- Responsibility.
- For his own work, his belongings and his place in the dormitory.
- Service.
- Helping younger boys and the community around the school.
Ramadan
During Ramadan the school day changes for fasting boys.
- Suhoor
- At about 3:00, prepared by the cooks and teachers.
- Lessons and prep
- Lesson and prep times move to fit around iftar and tarawih.
- Sport
- There is no sport during Ramadan.
- Iftar
- Boys break the fast together in the boarding house.
- Tarawih
- Boys pray tarawih together in the boarding house.
- Eid
- Boys go home for Eid, from the 27th day of Ramadan.
