Houses and pastoral care
A boy who boards needs adults who know him. This page names who looks after him, day and night, and how you can reach them.
Who looks after him
- Teachers on duty
- Teachers take turns on boarding duty, day and night. The teacher on duty is the first person a boy goes to.
- House parents
- Boarding staff and the teachers on duty look after the boys day and night. Boarding staff talk with each boy one to one once a month.
- Groups
- There are no separate houses. Boys are grouped by form, and each form has its own area of the dormitory.
- Teachers
- His teachers follow his studies, with monthly tests and a report to parents after each one.
- Prefects
- Prefects are chosen for their character and their studies, and are trained for the role.
At night
Ten adults stay on campus every night, and a teacher is on duty until morning.
The boys sleep in one large dormitory, divided by form: Forms 1 and 2 on one side, Form 3 in the middle and Form 4 on the other side. Younger boys have their own area, apart from the senior forms.
If a boy is ill in the night, a trained first aider looks after him in the campus first-aid room. Maryam Hospital is about two minutes away. If he is upset or homesick at night, he goes to the teacher on duty.
The first weeks
Missing home is normal in the first weeks, for boys and for parents.
New boys arrive one week before the returning boys, so they can learn the routine and settle in before term starts.
