For families abroad
If you live in Oman, the Gulf or further away, this page covers what is different for your family.
See the school without flying in
We can show you the school on a live WhatsApp video call, at a time that suits your time zone.
Or a relative in Zanzibar can visit for you. They see the classrooms and dormitories, meet the teachers and ask your questions. When they book, they tick "I am visiting on behalf of a family who live abroad" on the visit form.
Student pass and visa
A boy who is not a Tanzanian citizen needs a student pass to study in Tanzania. The rules, forms and fees are set by the Immigration Services Department, so please check them at the official source before you plan travel.
Once your son has a place, ask us for an admission letter for the application. We are happy to tell you what other families have needed.
A local guardian
You do not need to name a local guardian in Zanzibar or mainland Tanzania. The school contacts you directly, by phone or WhatsApp, about anything to do with your son.
Arriving: airport and ferry
Boys who fly in land at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport, Zanzibar. From the airport to the school is about 10 minutes by car.
From Dar es Salaam, the fast ferry crosses to Malindi port in Stone Town in about two hours.
The school does not meet boys at the airport or the port. Please plan for a parent or relative to bring your son to school at the start of term and collect him at the end.
Paying fees from abroad
All fees are set and paid in Tanzanian shillings (TZS), including for families who live abroad.
Pay from abroad by bank transfer. When your son is enrolled, the school gives you his payment number, which you use with every payment. The school never asks for fees to be paid into a personal account.
Holidays
Boys go home for mid-term, or may stay at school if you prefer. The dormitories close in the long holidays, so every boy goes home.
Term dates are on the calendar page, so you can book flights early.
Time zone
Zanzibar is on East Africa Time (EAT), three hours ahead of GMT, with no change for summer. Every time we give you is in EAT.
Oman and the United Arab Emirates are one hour ahead of Zanzibar. Saudi Arabia and Qatar are on the same time.
Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm EAT. At weekends our teachers still answer questions about admissions.
Come and see the school.
Walk the classrooms and dormitories, meet the teachers and ask your questions in person.
